Veeran Movie Review

Superhero films have never taken off in Tamil cinema over the years, and that is mostly because our heroes themselves have given in to larger-than-life images. But time and again, filmmakers have tried their best to bring forward the genre to audiences. And now, it is time for ARK Saravan to enter the superhero arena again with Veeran.

Veeran is the story of a man who gets hit by lightning at a young age, and how he recovers and discovers that he has superhuman powers. When he returns to his village after a long gap, he finds out that there is something wrong going on, and does his best to bring things back to shape. Veeran has a very interesting plot, and is very different from its counterpart Minnal Murali. ARK Saravan tries to infuse big loads of comedy into every scene, while also having the high moments intact. But he only succeeds to an extent as all the jokes don’t land and the film also suffers from drags here and there. While Veeran does definitely provide a different experience, the film could have been way better in handling its comic sequences and the core plot which is centered about spirituality and science.

Hip Hop Tamizha has gone in for a different act this time, and is not in his energetic form. The actor has done well with a measured performance, and is quite convincing in his part. The cast also has good additions such as Sasi who is very good as the friend, and Adhira who makes a nice debut as the heroine. The supporting cast which is majorly filled with lesser known faces, is impressive too, but for Kaali Venkat and Muniskanth who try hard to make us laugh but dont quite succeed.

Hip Hop Tamizha’s songs and BGM are important in upping the ante of the film, and the cinematography as well as the editing complement the film well.

On the whole, Veeran is a film which comes with its flaws but still has enough elements to satisfy family audiences.  Veeran Movie Review by Siddarth Srinivas
