Director Ashwath Marimuthu has shared exciting insights about his recent interaction with Superstar Rajinikanth, revealing that a potential collaboration between the two nearly materialized and could still happen in the future.

A Story That Impressed Rajinikanth

Speaking about the development, Ashwath Marimuthu revealed that he worked for nearly a month on a story intended for Rajinikanth under Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI). The filmmaker said he narrated the script to the Superstar, who listened with deep interest from the very beginning.

According to Ashwath, the narration lasted nearly one hour and forty-five minutes and turned out to be one of his most memorable storytelling sessions. He shared that Rajinikanth was particularly stunned during the interval block and reacted enthusiastically after hearing the complete story, calling it “superb.”

The veteran actor was reportedly intrigued by the antagonist’s character and even enquired about casting possibilities. Rajinikanth then suggested that the project could move forward after he completed another film, signalling strong interest in the concept.

Positive Response from RKFI

Ashwath further revealed that he later received a call from RKFI appreciating the story and acknowledging its potential. The director expressed confidence that the film still has a strong possibility of materializing in the future, adding that either he or Kamal Haasan could eventually produce the project.

The filmmaker also recalled how the opportunity came together. Shortly after Rajinikanth wrapped up work on Coolie, the actor personally contacted him to check whether the story was ready. A meeting was quickly arranged, and Ashwath was surprised to find Rajinikanth already present at the venue ahead of time – a gesture he described as deeply inspiring.

After the narration, Rajinikanth reportedly encouraged him to develop the script further and return with a complete version.

Thalaivar Line-Up: From Thalaivar 173 to a Possible Future Film

Industry buzz now suggests that Ashwath Marimuthu was initially considered for Thalaivar 173, a project that eventually went to director Ciby Chakaravarthy. However, insiders believe the filmmaker could reunite with Rajinikanth for a later collaboration, potentially around Thalaivar 175, while Thalaivar 174 will be the much-discussed Kamal Haasan-Rajinikanth venture directed by Nelson Dilipkumar.

Ashwath Marimuthu on His Admiration for Vijay

The director also opened up about his admiration for Thalapathy Vijay, revealing that he has already written a story specifically for the star, calling it his dream project.

Ashwath admitted that although he is not usually emotional, he felt overwhelmed when Vijay watched Dragon and personally appreciated his work. The actor reportedly questioned why the director had not approached him earlier for narration, further encouraging the filmmaker.

Despite having a script ready, Ashwath explained that he has not narrated it yet, as Vijay is currently focused on a different career trajectory.

Next Stop: STR 51

Meanwhile, Ashwath Marimuthu is gearing up for his next directorial venture starring Silambarasan TR, tentatively titled STR 51. The project will be produced by AGS Entertainment, marking another major step in the director’s rapidly rising career.

With multiple star collaborations in discussion and strong industry backing, Ashwath Marimuthu appears poised for a significant phase ahead – one that could eventually see him join forces with some of Tamil cinema’s biggest icons.
