Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan has enjoyed a fantastic opening weekend, grossing more than 200 crores worldwide in just 3 days (Sep 30 – Oct 2nd). The film’s collections are close to the 230 crore mark, and are all set to fly higher in the coming days. The highly positive reviews for the film and the massive buzz that it has been withstanding are working hugely in its favour.

In Tamil Nadu, the film has already neared the 75 crore mark in its opening weekend, with houseful shows on both Saturday and Sunday. Apart from the cities which are running packed shows by default, the film has done superbly in the smaller pockets of Tamil Nadu as well. PS1 has also done fine business even though not extraordinary at Kerala, Karnataka and the Telugu states. The film is on the verge of breaking even at these states and will do soon. In Hindi, PS1 has taken a decent opening of close to 6.5 crores in 3 days, and is showing a sequential increase.

PS1’s collections worldwide are flying higher than any other film in the recent past, as the film has grossed more than 100 crore in its overseas collections alone. The film has gone past the 4 million mark in USA with just the opening weekend alone, beating Kabali to become the best opener in the first weekend of all time. The collections in UAE and GCC are also super high as it sold 85000 tickets for the first day alone, and is now sitting close to the 20 crore mark cumulatively in the GCC region. In Australia and New Zealand, the film has grossed more than 6 crores. Whereas in France, the film has already crossed 20K entries in its 3 days beating the lifetime entries of RRR and is sure to beat the alltime #1 of Vikram (31K entries) in this week itself!

PS1 is also set to become the best earner of all time in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia and the UK with official numbers to be updated soon. The future is looking really good, for this magnum opus!
