The Tamil Nadu theatres had been shut down from 3rd July till yesterday the 6th July protesting against the municipal tax of the state government. There was absolutely no screening of any film in any theatre in the entire state.

However, finally, the Theatre Owners Association had announced last evening that the theatres across the state would be opened from today, the 7th July after their talks with the state government turned out good.

But, the government had mentioned that there would not be a levy of municipal tax for just a month. They have also appointed a six member commission, 3 from the government and 3 from the industry to discuss about this and come to a decision. Reports suggest that there might at least be a 10% tax from the government in addition to the 28% GST.
